The new CD is almost done! Seriously. It has been harder than I thought to self produce. It's probably because I want it to be perfect and keep making one more change. But, it is coming together and will have new originals and some covers that may not be all that familiar to you. I promise, it will be worth the wait. Now, back to work... Will

Summer is gone...

I am officially in college. Like everything else in my life, I swim against the current. While many of my friends headed out of town, I'm going to Embry Riddle Aeronautical University - Memphis Campus. My love of aviation and music are both satisfied since I get to keep my gig at BB King's and still pursue flying. And yes, I have about half of my new CD recorded with a goal of having it completely finished this fall. I know it has been a long time coming, and I think it will be worth the wait. I hope everyone had a great summer...and if you haven't checked out my sizzle reel, click the link above and see some of the Beale Street Music Festival performance as well as the except from Music Voyager. I hope everyone's summer is going great and that you are planning to make a trip to Memphis to see The Will Tucker Band at BB's. We are scheduled every Friday and Saturday through the summer so come down and check us out. If you see me looking a little strange tomorrow night, it's because I had a little accident with my '56 Chevy Bel Air. Let's just say that it's best to open a radiator when the car has totally cooled down. I have a pretty rough looking burn on my face to show what happens when you open the radiator too soon. Fortunately, I only got first and second degree burns and my eyes and hands were spared. I'll heal and I'm just thankful it wasn't worse! My new CD is coming along. We still have a few more tracks to lay down and then I'll mix and master. I am shooting for it to be done by mid summer. I know I have been promisng this for a while, but I let the restoration of my '56 distract me for a few months. It's done and I'm back at it. I hope you have a great summer, and I hope you have us on your agenda. I look forward to seeing you at BB's soon! Will

Distracted!

I know it has been too long since I have written anything, and I'll use the same excuse I've been using at school -- I'm busy. The truth is that at school, I can't wait for it to be over. May 19th and I'll be a grad from high school. People tell me I will miss it, but I don't see how. I just finished producing a CD for my band at school. It will be available soon, and it should be pretty good since I sing and play lead guitar on all the songs but one. Seriously, I'm prouder of having done all of the mixing and mastering. It took hours but I knew what I was looking for. I built my own studio in our house so it was a chance to use it, new sound board and all. Now, I am getting serious about my own record, and I really do plan to get it done soon. I'm also heavy into restoring a '56 Chevy Bel Air, and I've been renting out my flight simulator to a flight instructor who has been training some Vietnamese pilots -- really! They pay to use my 727 sim (see www.727simulator.com) but I have to run the software and be there the entire time. Somewhere in all of that, I'm still at BB's twice a week, go to school, and have a girlfriend. Yeah, she is very understanding. So, now that I have bored you with all of that, you at least know at little bit more about all that I have going on. I hope the summer will bring some clarity about my career, but at least, I know that I will go to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University - Memphis Campus this fall. Coming up: I'll be missing a few dates at BB's in the coming weeks - prom (April 21), my gf's graduation (May 18), and the big one...May 4 because we will be playing at the Beale Street Music Festival! Please put that Friday night on your calendar and plan to see us in the FedEx Blues Tent at 7:45. And finally, check me out with Rodd, my drummer, and his dad, Bobby Blue Bland, on Music Voyager, April 19th at 9 pm on WKNO- Channel 10, here in Memphis. If you live in another city, check with your PBS station for when they are showing Music Voyager - Memphis Mojo. Some people have written that they have already seen in their city. Well, it's that time of year when we catch our breath. This week, the band has been in the recording studio working on the new album. We have a lot of work ahead of us but actually getting some tracks laid down felt good. We are mixing my originals and deciding which covers to include. There is a certain sound we are striving for, and it's coming together.

I hope you all have a great holiday and remember why we celebrate Christmas. More as we get more studio work done.....

Progress is being made!

I hear the same thing every weekend...when is my new CD coming out? With everything going on, I knew I had to find a motivation to make recording it the most important thing I have to do right now. Being the project kind of guy that I am, I started another new project...converting my music room into a recording studio. The wall is up (window, door and cable portal included) and the sound proofing has been installed. I've sprung for a PreSonus StudioLive 24.4.2 , new drum mic's and about to get my ProTools upgrade. Hey, I've been working for two years at BB's. I need to invest some of my income into something really important, and this is it. I'm just glad my parents don't get mad that I keep taking over rooms in our house. So, we are putting together the song list and should begin recording next week. We'll get professional help for mastering, but this studio will give us everything we need to lay down the tracks ourselves. I'll keep you posted on our progress.

Mixing It up...

Hey, sorry I am so bad about blogging. There is just something about the senior year of high school. I am so busy everyday, and there is so much going on. First, school. Where to go to college? And I guess I don't have to decide right now, but deciding a major is a big deal. Everyone thinks I should major in music, but I already know music. I'm thinking engineering and something to do with flying. That is probably what I will do. In the meantime, I am finishing up my lineup for my new CD. I am hoping it will be all originasl, but I might include a couple of songs written by another songwriter but are previously unrecorded. I know it is time. People ask me all the time when the new CD is coming out. Be sure to check my YouTube channel, JohnBohnam223. I hope to see you down at BB's. Will

What's Up With Randy?

Many of you have heard, but our bass player and friend, Randy Middleton, was in a motorbike accident on Saturday night after our gig. After spending 20 hours at The Med, he was moved to the Baptist Hospital. Randy has a broken leg and three broken ribs. He will be out for a few weeks while he recovers. Please say a prayer for him to heal quickly. My friend, Ben Murray, will fill in for Randy while he is out. This weekend, we'll be playing at the Mid-South Fair at 6 pm. I hope you'll come out and see us at BB's or the Fair.

Keeping it "Unreal"

Sometimes, I get to do things that seem unreal. Even though my drummer is Rodd Bland, and his dad is none other than Bobby Blue Bland, I have never expected that to get me a special meeting or anything with Bobby Blue Bland. Blue, as Rodd calls his dad, is a member of both the Blues Hall of Fame AND the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I would have never expected a chance to actually play with him. But, I did.

A PBS series, Music Voyager, came to Tennessee and spend a week traveling and recording the music of our state. I was invited to play on their show, and to make it legit, Blue was the real star of the show! He, Rodd and I jammed, sort of unplugged and totally unrehearsed, at the Blues Foundation. Then, we moved to BB King's and had a great time jamming on stage.

I still think it was just a very real dream. As unreal as it seems, I really did get to jam with Bobby Blue Bland. How totally cool is that?

Thank you for your votes. Today, Memphis Most winners were revealed and there we were in all three categories, more than any band or performer ever. Okay, I didn't place number one, but I'm humbled to place and be in the same catagories with winners, BB King and Justin Timberlake. So many of you voted every day and I actually came in second in Best Blues Artist behind BB KIng. I would not even want to get more votes than BB! And The Will Tucker Band came in second behind 1-900 Band. They are a great party and wedding band in Memphis. This is a big honor for the band and me to be a Memphis Most. I just really appreciate all of the votes and you guys are the best! Thank you!!!

Summer Break - What?

We always start the summer break with a list of everything we plan to do. My list included:
1. Get started on new album
2. Finish private pilot certificate
3. Write some new songs
4. Chill
So far, I have accomplished number four. I have plans around the album, have been flying and studying for my written test (all I have left for pilot certificate), and working on a couple of new songs. I still have two weeks left.

How about you? I'd love to know how you get things done.

And if you keep putting off coming to BB's to see TWTB, we are still there every Friday and Saturday, 5-8:30. Bring friends, get there early and check that one off your summer to-do list!

Great camera...now I just need someone who knows how to use it (sorry, Mom). Still, the sound is better than any we have posted to date so I think you'll enjoy them. The WT Band is making its first road trip of 2011...three hours east to Nashville, Tennessee! If you have friends there, live there or want to just be there when we show up, plan to be at BB King's Blues Club at 152 Second Street right downtown. Beale Street Caravan Blow Out 2011

I feel very honored to play for the annual Beale Street Caravan fundraiser. Tickets are on sale for $75...this covers food, open bar, drinks, and music. Proceeds benefit Beale Street Caravan programming and helps keep the show free of charge to stations that carry the program, promoting Memphis music to over 300 US affiliate stations and over 100 affiliate stations worldwide. Thanks for voting for my nomination for Memphis Most. We'll see in a couple of weeks if I made it. In the meantime, you can still come hear the band down on Beale Street every Friday and Saturday night through the summer. This week only, we'll be playing on Thursday night, too. If you live out of town and plan to come hear us this summer, be sure to double check my website or www.bbkingclubs.com to ensure we are playing. That is the plan. But sometimes BB King's has some artist in town or it might be a BB King weekend. Just check to make sure.
